   Ashley Newman is currently a senior at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  As a student in the College of Media, she will graduate this May with a Bachelor’s of Science in Advertising. Ashley is a top student at her university. She maintains a 3.5 GPA, is a member of the National Scholars Honor Society and has received various scholarships and awards for academic excellence. Ashley was chosen as 1 of 50 students through a national selection to be officially named a 2010 Most Promising Minority Student by the American Advertising Federation.
   Ashley’s platform is immeasurably centered on a cause that sparked a challenging and life-changing experience in her family. On Mother's Day, May 9, 2008, Ashley’s grandmother suffered a severe stroke leaving her paralyzed and unable to speak. Ashley will spend her year promoting her personal platform, A.S.A.P (Advancing Stroke Awareness and Prevention) in honor of her grandmother’s transition. Through stroke advocacy grassroots efforts, educating and encouraging the public, Ashley believes that society can make a big impact on the fight against stroke.
   In addition to her work advocating for The American Heart Association, Ashley is also involved with several other organizations including: The Brain Injury Association of Illinois, Power to End Stroke Campaign, You’re The Cure advocacy campaign, and the American Stroke Association.
